I finished my first year at the academy June 8th! It was the an amazing experience filled with struggles only dancers can relate to, achievements as stressful as they were rewarding and memories you can’t capture in a picture or video.
My exams were all within the same week including ten hours worth of Russian language finals! I passed my acting, historical dance, character dance, classical dance, and Russian language exams. I also had final scores in gymnastics, contemporary, make up and repertoire. To be honest the last months were the most stressful for me because everything I had worked on that year led up to those exams. I put so much pressure on myself because I knew how much I wanted to be invited back! It was the greatest feeling afterwards to know I had made the grade and was coming back in September!
My last week in Moscow was awesome, no pressure, no responsibilities (at least for a little while ha-ha)! The weather was nice and we got to be normal kids with our friends going to movies, walking in the parks, eating ice cream and having sleepovers!
As people started leaving for summer break I realized I wouldn’t see some of them for a long time and others I might not see ever again. For especially the graduates, who are now going off into the world with amazing careers, I’m thankful to at least have been a blip in their lives at МГАХ.
In June I packed up my room, said my goodbyes, grabbed my summer clothes and flew home to California! After 5 weeks on vacation, which included media interviews, daily trips to the gym with my grandpa, physical therapy at Body Concepts and chiropractic with Dr. Al, I’m back dancing at the BBASI in NYC for 3 weeks with my teachers and friends from Moscow! I am so fortunate to be able to attend this year and I am so thankful Russian American Foundation continues to fund and organize this life changing opportunity.
P.S. I received my new contract and visa invite yesterday! I think my mom has a new ulcer after looking at how much money is due in mid August! (Sorry Mommy!) If I can figure out money for tuition and flights, I’ll return September 1st for another hard year of work.
